Alberto Lysy, Violin

Alberto Lysy was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and is esteemed as one of the world's finest interpreters and pedagogues of the present day. Violinist, orchestra director and composer, he was the last and unique student of Yehudi Menuhin.

Among orchestra directors who have worked with Alberto Lysy are Pierre Boulez, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Adrian Boult, Igor Markevicz, Mstlav Rostropovitch. He played with the philharmonic orchestras of New York, London the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the Washington Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra etc. In chamber music he has worked with Yehudi Menuhin, Nadia Boulanger, Benjamin Britten, Pablo Casals, Pierre Fournier etc. The heritage left to him by Yehudi Menuhin, the responsibility of the IMMA where he became Director 30 years ago allow him to attract young violinists and cellists from around the world to follow his teaching and masterclasses with the most prestigious artists. He created the Camerata Lysy made up of students from the IMMA.

Alberto Lysy plays regularly at the Victoria Hall, Geneva, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and has made world tours to the US, former Soviet Union, China and Japan. He is regularly invited to the Enesco Festival in Bucharest and has been decorated for his cultural work by various governments, royalty and musical organisations. He is strongly connected to his home country of Argentina where he has created the Lysy Festival. He organizes various musical events in Switzerland. He played at Castel Gondolfo in hommage to Yehudi Menuhin in the presence of His Holiness Pope Jean Paul II.
